pone (adv.): adv. and prep. + acc.;

1. adv. after, behind, back, the same as ‘post;’ in the rear, behind; from behind; in the direction of the rear; opp. ante (adv.), in front (of); before, in advance of; = a tergo, from the back, from behind (opp. ante, ‘before’);

- moveri et ante et pone, ad laevam et ad dextram, to be moved both in front and behind, to the left and to the right.

- pone venire, to go to the rear, to go behind.

- pone sequens, following from behind.

- pone respicere, to look behind, look back.

2. prep. with acc.: behind, in the rear of; (of motion) to the rear of;br>
- pone me, behind me. br>
– pone aedem Castoris, behind the temple of Castor.br>
- vinctae pone tergum manus, hands bound behind the back.br>
- [Tropaeolum] perianthium laciniis duabus inferioribus angustioribus, pone cornutum (Linn.), the perianth with two laciniae, the lower narrower, behind hornlike.br>
- [Orchis] stigma inter cornua porrecta, pone meatum, convexum, nitidum, madidum (Swartz), the stigma between the horns extended, behind [the passage or channel, i.e. between the horns or spurs] convex, shining, moist. br>

- (algae) A Dudresnaja differt favellidiis pone apicem ramulorum — hinc fere ut in Naccaria in rostrum excurrentium—subsolitariis (Agardh), from Dudresnaja it differs by the favellidia nearly solitary, behind the apex of the branchlets - here nearly as in Naccaria, running out into a beak.br>
- auctumno & hyeme oritur & in ver usque durat, observataque mihi variis circa Londinum locis ad fossas & pone muros, ubi vernali & aestivo calore mox exsiccata evanescit (Dill.), it arises in autumn and winter and endures as far as into spring, and observed by me in various places around London in ditches and behind walls when, in the vernal and summer heat, afterwards dried up, it disappears.br>
