Pit (Eng.noun), mine: fodina,-ae (s.f.I), abl. sg. fodina, a pit, mine; puteus,-ei (s.m.II), abl. sg. puteo, gen. pl. puteorum: a well, of a cistern; a pit, as for storing grain; of mines, a pit, shaft; scrobis,-is (s. [m.f.or n.] III) abl.sg. scrobe, nom. & acc. pl. scrobes, a ditch, trench, pit, grave; sirus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. siro, from the Gk, a pit, used for grain storage, an underground granary; see ‘well;’ see fossa,-ae (s.f.I), cf. furrow, sulcus,-i (s.m.II); see mine; see stone-quarry; see well.

- fodina argenti, silver mine.

Arenarium,-ii (s.n.II), abl.sg. arenario: a sand pit.

Nuphar puteorum Fern. "’of pits;’ from the type-station" (Fernald, 1950). “Known only locally, from Sussex Co., Virginia.

pertaining to pits: putealis,-e (adj.B), puteanus,-a,-um (adj.A): of or belonging to a well, or pit; well-; fovealis,-e (adj.B): foveal, pertaining to pits or depressions;

- aqua (-ae, s.f.I) putealis, aqua puteana, well-water, pit-water.
