A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Pisciculus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. pisciculo: little fish [> L. dim. of piscis,-is (s.m.III), q.v.];

- [Tremella marina vulgaris, Lactucæ similis. Oyster Green or Laver; the marine [i.e. salt water] common Tremella, similar to Lactuca ].

Cum Ostreis plerumque in forum defertur, unde verosimile ad Ostrearum lectos copiose eam nasci, & de hac Aristotelem Libro de Anim. Hist. C. 6. scripsisse existimat Dodonæus Pempt. p. 877. Quod ostreæ & pisciculi alii ea alantur (Dill.), frequently carried down [i.e. conveyed] into the marketplace with Oysters, for which reason, most likely, copiously collected for the raising [i.e. breeding] of Oysters, and regarding this Dodonaeus Pempt. Pl. 877, considered Aristotle in his book de Anim. Hist. C. 6 to have had written, because oysters and other small fishes may be nourished by it.
