Phyllode (Eng.noun), a flat, expanded petiole replacing the blade of a foliage leaf, as in Acacia, with the same function, analogous but not homologous with a cladophyll; (phyllodium) “that kind of leaf which results from an enlargement of the petiole and the loss of leaflets” (Lindley); ); “a somewhat dilated petiole having the form of and serving as a leaf-blade” (Fernald 1950), [in Sagittaria] “the scapes sheathed at base by the bases of the long cellular petioles, of which the primary ones... are destitute of any proper blade (i.e., are phyllodia” (Fernald 1950): phyllodium,-ii (s.n.II), abl.sg. phyllodio [> Gk. phyllon, a leaf] + + eidos, gen. sg. eideos (s.n.III), ‘resemblance, form’ + Gk. diminutive noun suffix -ion,-ii (s.n.II)]; see cladophyll.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
