perennial (Eng.adj.): lasting throughout the year and from year to year; “perennial, perennans, perennis. - lasting for several years, and yet flowering every year” (Lindley); (fungi) “living for a number of years” (Ainsworth & Bisby): perennis,-e (adj.B); perennans,-antis (part.B), q.v.; cf. annuus,-a,-um (adj.A), annual, lasting a year; cf. biennis,-e (adj.B), biennial, continuing two years; see biennial; see year;

NOTE: abbrev. per., q.v. NOTE: ‘evergreen,’ q.v., indicates a plant that does not shed its leaves in the winter, but that the plant bears leaves throughout the year.

- proxime accédens ad B. melanocarpam, quae species autem perennis est (nec annua ut in Linnaea xxv, 476 descripta) (F. Mueller), most closely approaching to [Brachycome malanocarpa], which species is, however, perennial (not annual as described in Linnaea xxv. 476).

- radix lignosa, suberofa, perennis (Swartz), root woody, corky, perennial.

- herbae annuae radice fibrosa, v. perennantes caudice lignoso (B&H), annual herbs with a fibrous root or perennial [herbs] with a woody caudex.
