A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
passerinus,-a,-um (adj.A): of or fit for a sparrow [> L. passer,-eris (s.m.III), q.v., a sparrow];

- [fungus] semel ad dumeta umbrosa in stercore passerino exempla adolescentia maturaque mixta inventa (S&A), discovered once in shaded [thorn] thickets on sparrow dung, adolescent and mature specimens mixed.

- [alga] frondes aggregatae, spithameae, pedales, 2 pedales, pennam passerinam crassitie subaequantes, teretes, filiformes, filis confervoideis, tenuissimis, simplicibus (Agardh), fronds aggregate [i.e. clustered together], a span [i.e. 7 inches long], a foot, 2 feet, almost equalling a sparrow feather in thickness, rounded-cylindric, thread-like, with the filaments confervoid, very thin, unbranched.

- [alga; Polysiphonia subcontinua] filum primarium crassitie pennae passerinae (Agardh), main filament with the thickness of a sparrow feather.
