A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
parietalis,-e (adj.B): parietal, “growing to the walls or interior surface of an ovary” (Lindley); “borne on or pertaining to the wall or inner surface of a capsule” (Fernald 1950); borne on a wall, pertaining to the wall [ > L. paries,-etis (s.m.III), pertaining to a partition of a house, a wall]; see pertaining to the wall;

- ovula placentis 1-7 parietalibus inserta (DeCandolle), the ovules inserted on the 1-7 parietal placentas.

- ovulis 6 per paria placentis 3 parietalibus adnatis (DeCandolle), with the ovules 6, per pair, with the 3 parietal adnate to the placentas.

- chromatophoro parietali, with parietal chromatophore.

- partes parietales in forma litterae H distinctae, parts pertaining to the wall in the shape of the letter H distinct.

- cellulae saepe per materiam parietalem distincte segregatae, cells often distinctly separated by wall material.

- superficie foliari ex materia parietali composita, with leaf surface composed of wall material.

- ovula indefinita, rarius pauca, secus placentas parietalia v. ad basin ovarii inserta (B&H), ovules indefinite [i.e. in number], rarely few, parietal along the placentas or inserted at the base of the ovary.

- ovarium placentis parietalibus v. septis a latere v. prope parietes placentiferis divisum (B&H), ovary divided by the parietal placentas or with septa from the side or near the placenta-bearing walls.

- semina ideo semper vere parietalia, sed nunc placentae parieti contiguae nunc septi angulo interno adfixa plurima, parvula (DeCandolle), the seeds for this reason are truly parietal, but sometimes contiguous to the wall of the placenta, sometimes attached to the inner angle of the septum, very many, rather small.

- placentae 3 parietales, sepalis 3 exterioribus supra thalamum symetrice dispositis oppositae (DeCandolle), the placentae 3, parietal, opposite the outer 3 sepals above the thalamus [i.e. receptacle, or torus] symmetrically arranged.

- omnia Alsodeiae, etiam quoad placentarum parietalium numerum ex cl. Brown cong. p. 22. (DeCandolle), all Alsodeiae, even with respect to the number of the parietal placentas, according to the well-known Brown.

- placentae 3 duplices bipartitae, parietales, sepalis 3 (interioribus) supra torum symetrice dispositis oppositeae (DeCandolle), placentas 3, double, bipartite, parietal, opposite to the 3 (interior) sepals, symmetrically arranged above the torus [i.e. the receptacle].
