NOTE: (post classical) Pergamentum,-i (s.n.II), also Pergamenum,-i (s.n.II) from Pergamenus (Pergamum) “a city in Asia Minor renowned for its library” (Wiktionary Sept. 2018).

NOTE: pergamenus,-a,-um (adj.A): “of or belonging to Pergamum in Mysia [ancient NW Asia Minor]” (Glare). Pergameus,-a,-um (adj.A), either 1. of or belonging to the citadel of Troy, Trojan; or 2. of Pergamum in Mysia” (Glare).

NOTE: cf. English ‘parchmented:’ having a leathery surface (WIII).

NOTE: vegetable parchment: “a highly grease-resistant and water-resistant paper resembling parchment, often used as a food wrapper, and made by passing unsized paper through sulfuric acid to gelatinize its surface and then washing and drying it - called also parchment paper” (WIII).

NOTE: Vellum (Eng. noun), derives from a French word, referring to a calf: a thin calfskin specially prepared for uses similar to those of parchment (as for writing); a membrane.
