A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
papposus,-a,-um (adj.A): pappose, having a pappus; with conspicuous pappus; with abundant pappus; opp. pappescens,-entis (part.B), q.v.;

- semina, omnia fertilia, papposa: pappo piloso (Necker), seeds all fertile, with abundant pappus: with the pappus pilose.

- semina, feminarum, pappescentia nudaque, fertilia: monoclinorum, abortantia (Necker), seeds, of the female [flowers], pappus-like and naked, fertile: of the hermaphrodite [flowers] aborting.

- semina, florum marginalia, papposa, pluriradiata ; centralia , pappo fetaceo , retrofracto , instructa (Necker), seeds, the marginal ones of the flowers with strong pappi, pluriradiate; the central [seeds], provided with a bristle-like pappus, back-turned [i.e. reflexed].

- semina in ambitu, nuda, in centro , pappofa : pappo piloso; omnia fertilia (Necker), seeds on the circumference naked, in the center, with conspicuous pappus: with the pappus long-haired; all fertile.

- Semina, feminarum fertilia, indurato-globosa, non papposa; (Necker), the seeds of the female [flowers] fertile, hardened-globose, lacking pappus.
