A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
panniformis,-e (adj.B), pannosus,-a,-um (adj.A):panniform, pannose, felted, with appearance or texture of felt or woollen cloth of very close texture, i.e. a kind of tomentose; “having the texture of coarse cloth” (Lindley); ); “tattered” (Stearn 1996) [> L. pannosus,-a,-um (adj.A): “dressed in rags; consisting of rags, tattered; having the appearance of rage” (Glare); cf. lepidotus,-a,-um (adj.A): lepidote, covered with small scales, scaly; “provided with small scurfy scales” (Fernald 1950); see felted; see tomentose;

- [Racodium rupestre]: Compactum, vere pannosum, rupes longe lateque incrustans. Ad saxa granitica frequens; compact, almost felted, encrusting rocks far and wide. Frequent on granitic stones.

- germen subglobosum extus subtiliter lepidoto-pannosum, (F. Mueller), the ovary nearly globose, externally lightly lepidote-pannose [i.e. felted].

- (fungus) compactum, vere pannosum , rupes longe lateque incrustans (S&Z), compact, in the spring pannose [i.e. tomentose], coating rocks far and wide.

Elaphoglossum pannosum M. Kessler & Mickel, from the leaf under-surface with a dense indumentum of tiny scales (upper surface glabrous).
