A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
overwintering, perennating, perennate, to live over from season to season, be perennial, to persist, over-wintering: perennans,-antis (part.B); perennis,-e (adj.B); see wintering.
overwintering buds: “especially the axillary and terminal buds of trees and shrubs” (Fernald 1950); cf. hibernaculum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. hibernaculo: winter-bud, shortened and crowded vegetative shoots found in certain genera, such as Potamogeton.

- gemma (s.f.I) perennans, abl. sg. gemma perennante, overwintering bud.

- folia anni praeteriti to do 'leaves of the year past;' overwintered leaves.
