A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
odoratus,-a,-um (part.A); compar. odoratior,-ius (adj.B); superl. odoratissimus,-a,-um (adj.A): that which has a smell, emitting an odor, especially emitting a sweet or pleasant odor, fragrant [> L. odoro,-avi,-atum 1. to give off a smell or fragrance]; opp. inodoratus,-a,-um (adj.A), odorless;

- capitula florescentia odorata, nec non radices, pecoribus grata (Swartz., flowering capitula emitting a pleasing odor, and also the roots, attractive to cattle.

- flores subcymoso-fasciculati pedicellique cinerei, albi, odorati. (B&H), the flowers nearly cymose-fasciculate, and the pedicels ash-gray, white, fragrant.

- [Rondeletia odorata] flores miniati, majusculi, odoratissimi (Swartz), the flowers scarlet [red], rather large, very fragrant.

- corollae longissimae, odoratissimae, the corollas very long, highly fragrant.

- [A. C. pyriodora; fungus] odorem fungi nostri ei potius, quem Violae odoratae flores spargunt, quam pyrino aequiparaverimus (S&A), the smell of our mushroom is rather to that which the flowers of Viola odorata disperse, than we would have compared to [odor of] the pear.

- tota planta odoratissima, etiam sicca, odore gratissimo (Swartz), the whole plant very fragrant, even when dry, with a most pleasant odor.

Conyza odorata; Lantana odorata.

Carphephorus odoratissimus; Liatris odoratissima; Spartium odoratissimum.

Asperula odorata “is quite pleasant, and the plant has been used for flavouring wine, perfuming clothes, etc.” (Paxton).
