A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Nose, organ of smelling: naris,-is (s.f.III), abl. sg. nare; nom. & acc. pl. nares, gen.sg. narium (= an i-stem noun), a nostril, usu. in plural, the nostrils, the nose; an opening, orifice, vent, air-hole of a canal, etc. (Lewis & Short); nasus (nassus),-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. naso (nasso); nasum (nassum),-i (s.n.II), abl.sg. naso (nasso); proboscis,-idis (s.f.III), q.v., the trunk or snout of an animal; see beak;

- [PETIVERIA alliacea] Contra Cephalalgiam, capiti l. naso admota, apud Domingenses in usu est (Swartz), against headache, applied to the head or [l.=vel] the nose, is the custom with the Dominicans.

nose, having a long: nasutus,-a,-um (adj.A); compar. nasutior,-ius (comp. B); nasutissimus,-a,-um (adj.A).
