A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

mutans,-antis (part.B): changing, altering, transforming; mutating [in + acc. ‘into’] [> L. muto,-avi,-atum 3. to move to a place, to alter, change];

- cellulae formam mutantes dum movent, cells changing shape while they move (Stearn).

mutant: third-person plural present active indicative; they change, transform.

gerundive: mutandus, mutanda, mutandum (adj.A): ‘to be changed or altered;’

- an sectiones in genera mutandae? (DeCandolle), perhaps the sections should be changed into genera? [mutandae = gerundive, an adj. modifying ‘sectiones’ in nom. pl.].

mutavi: first person singular perfect active indicative; I have altered, changed;

- [Ryanaea] Nomen tantillum mutavi ne confundatur cum Riana (BeCandolle), I have altered the name a little bit lest it be confused with [the genus] Riana.

- (algae) postea in opusculo de anabiosi (l851) propter diversam gonidiorum genesin a Characiis separatam sub nomine generico Ascidii proposui, quod nunc propter homonymum Lichenum genus cum Hydrocytii nomine mutavi (Braun), later, in a little work regarding anabiosis, I proposed it separated from the Characiae because of the different development of the gonidia, under the generic name Ascidium, which I have changed with the name Hydrocytium at the present time because of the genus being a homonym of Lichens.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
