A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
multifidus,-a,-um (adj.A): “cut half way into many segments” (Lindley); “cleft into many lobes or segments” (Fernald 1950); see -fidus,-a,-um (adj.A), in L. comp., divided (usually within the outer third of the structure or organ);

- spinas simplices bifidas aut multifidas saepe mixtas, furcatea (Agardh), the spines undivided, twice or many times divided often mingled, forked.

- (algae) ramulis spiniformibus verticalibus divaricato-multifidis subcontinuis (Agardh), with the branchlets spine-shaped, vertical, divaricate-multifid, nearly continuous.

- (algae) spinas simplices bifidas ant multifidas saepe mixtas, furcates compresses aut depresses (Agardh), spines simple [i.e. unbranched] cleft into two or many segments, often mixed, forked, compressed or depressed.

- (moss) calyptra glabra multifida (Hooker), calyptra glabrous, many times segmented.

- [Asclepiadaceae] in specie inedita Africana coronae squamae apice setaceo-multifidae, in altera pariter inedita Khasiana corona ad basin annularem 10-crenatam reducitur, arista omnino deficiente (B&H), in an unpublished African species the scales of the corona at the apex setaceous-multifid, in another likewise unpublished Khasian [species] the corona is reduced at the annular, 10-crenate base, completely lacking an awn.

- petalis ad tertiam partem usque digitato-multifidis (Boissier), with the petals digitate-multifid up to a third part.

- lobi foliorum in lacinias setaceas longas multifidi, (Boissier), the lobes of the leaves multifid into long, setaceous laciniae [i.e. lacerations].

- [Anemone multifida] foliis radicalibus ternatim sectis, segmentis multifidis, lobis linearibus, involucri involucellorumque multifidis breviter petiolatis (DeCandolle) with the basal leaves ternately cut, with the segments many times cleft, with the lobes linear, of the involucre and involucella many times cleft, shortly petiolate.

- folia caulina pinnati-partita , lobis multifidis (DeCandolle), the cauline leaves pinnately-parted, with the lobes multifid.

- stigma multifidum (Swartz), the stigma multifid [i.e. cleft into many lobes].
