Mucus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. muco, also muccus,-i (s.m.II): nasal mucus and secretions that resemble mucus; “gummy matter soluble in water” (Lindley); (in fungi) “slime” (S&D) [> L. mucus,i (s.m.II), snivel, mucus of the nose]; mucus may be dense (densus,-a,-um (adj.A) or loose (laxus,-a,-um (adj.A); see slime;

- filis fasciculatim exeuntibus muco solidescente cohibitis, with filaments arising fasciculately, held together with a solidifying mucus.

- sphaerulae arcte gregariae, partim inanes nobis conspectae, partim muco spermatophoro scatentes; quem ostiola prominula sordide fuscescentia guttulae gelatinosae (sed post allquot dies exsiccatae inque farinam albidam fatiscentis) in formam sparsim promebant (S&A), sphaerules tightly gregarious, [those] observed by us partly empty, partly abounding in a spore [i.e. seed-]-bearing mucus; [which] sparsely displayed ostioles somewhat prominent, dirty brownish in the form of gelatinous droplets (but dried out after a few days and crumbling into a whitish powder).

- primordialis tota immersa est, vertice vixdum eminulo, admodum mollis, muco semineo immaturo dilute fuliginoso turgens (S&A), the whole primordial [i.e. first-formed plant] is immersed, yet projecting a little at the top, completely soft, swelling with an immature, dilute sooty-brown seminal mucus.

- (fungus) muco spermatophoro (ut videtur) (S&A), with an (apparently) spermatophorous mucus.

- (algae) stratum externum cellulis muco laxo circumdatis (Chylocladia, etc.) constitutum est (Agardh), the outer layer is constituted by cells surrounded with a loose mucus.

- (algae) stratum externum e filis moniliformibus et muco involutis constitutum (Agardh), the outer layer constituted from moniliform filaments and enveloped in mucus.

- frondes cylindraceae aut compressae gelatinoso-lubricae; filis periphericis moniliformibus invicem liberis aut muco laxiori cohaerentibus (Agardh), the fronds cylindraceous or compressed, gelatinous-slimy; with the peripheral filaments moniliform alternately with free or cohering by a looser [i.e. less dense] mucus.
Mucus, abounding in: muculentus,-a,-um (adj.A).

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
