A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Mesocarp, the middle layer of a pericarp; “that part of a pericarp which lies between the outer and inner skins or integuments” (Lindley): mesocarpium,-ii (s.n.II), abl.sg. mesocarpio, nom. & acc. pl. mesocarpia, dat. & abl.pl. mesocarpiis; see endocarp, epicarp, pericarp;

- fructibus ovatis mesocarpio endocarpii libero, with the fruits ovate with the mesocarp of the endocarpium free.

- fructus oblongo-fusiformis, inermis, mesocarpio suberoso, subindehiscens (B&H); fruit oblong-fusiform, unarmed, with the mesocarp corky, somewhat indehiscent.

- fructus depresso-globosus, indehiscens, epicarpio tenuiter carnoso, mesocarpio crasso e nodulis lignosis fero osseis distinctis composito (B&H), the fruit depressed-globose,indehiscent, with the epicarp thinly fleshy, the mesocarp thick, composed of nodules, distinct, woody, almost bony.

- fructus oblongo-fusiformis, inermis, mesocarpio suberoso (B&H), the fruit oblong-fusiform, unarmed, with a corky mesocarp.

- drupa ovoidea v. globosa, epicarpio 2-4-valvi, mesocarpio cyathiformi, 1-3-pyrena, pyrenis osseis concretis 1-spermis (B&H), drupe ovoid or globose, with the epicarp 2-4-valved, with the mesocarp cyathiform, 1-3-pyrenous, with the pyrenes bony, grown together, 1-seeded.

- drupa obliqua, laevis, mesocarpio resinoso, endocarpio crustaceo l-loculari l-spermo (B&H), the drupe oblique, smooth, with the mesocarp resinous, the endocarp encrusted, 1-locular, 1-seeded.

- [Olacineae] Drupa subglobosa, ultra medium calyce accreto inclusa, " sarcocarpio tenui, mesocarpio sublignoso, endocarpio tenui carnosulo albo" (fide R. Spruce) (B&H), drupe nearly globose, included beyond the middle in the fused calyx “with a thin sarcocarp, the mesocarp somewhat woody, the endocarp thin, somewhat fleshy, white (according to R. Spruce).

- epicarpio tenuiter crustáceo, mesocarpio atro dense carnoso, endocarpio corneo reniformi. (B&H), with the epicarp thinly crested, the mesocarp black, densely fleshy, the endocarp [with the texture of horn], kidney-shaped.

- legumen crassum, indehiscens, mesocarpio pulposo (B&H), the legume thick, indehiscent, with a pulpy mesocarp.
