A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Merulius,-ii (s.m.II), abl.sg. Merulio: a fungus with a black color [> L. meruleus,-a,-um (adj.A), of the color of a blackbird > merula,-ae (s.f.I), blackbird].

(fungus) Phlebia tremellosa (= originally Merulius tremellosus, Heinrich Adolf Schrader, 1794), the Trembling Merulius, Jelly Rot (Meruliaceae; Polyporaceae). Below, the spore-bearing surface (fertile hymenium) displayes wrinkled, reticulate to radiate ridges, sinuous folds and cross veins with pore-like depressions, resembling a Bolete.

- Boletus esculentus, rugosus, albicans, quasi fuligine infestus. Fungus porosus, rugosus, albicans, quasi fuligine infestus. Fungus rugosus vel cavernosus sive Merulius ex albo nonnihil rubescens (Tourne.), Boletus esculentus, rugose, pale white, as if infested [i.e. overrun] with soot. A porous fungus, wrinkled, pale white, as if infested with soot. A porous rugose or cavernose [i.e. full of cavities] fungus, on the other hand, as a Merulius, from white to somewhat reddish.

- [Omphalia epiphylla; fungus] var. rugata, subtus rugis genuinis vagis parcis ramosis instructa, Merulio utique proxima est (S&A), below provided with genuine, meandering, scant [i.e. few] branched wrinkles, at any rate, it is closest to Merulius.

- [Peziza membranacea; fungus] An huc? An Meruliis propior? (S&A), perhaps [it belongs] here? Perhaps closer to Merulius [sc. species].

- [Merulius carbonarius: fungus] passim obtegebat carbonaria (S&A), far and wide it covered charred [sc. places; loca carbonaria; fireplaces].

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
