melius (adv.): better (comparative of bene); see bene (adv.), ‘well;’ see optime (adv.) ‘best;’

- cum typo melius congruit, with the type it agrees better.

- venis in margine apicali melius visis, with the veins better seen on the apical margin.

- in Cryptonemearum subdivisione favellidia melius [optime] cognita, in the subdivision of Cryptonemeae the favellidia are better [best] known.

- sed characteribus permultis Zanthoxylo melius quadrat, but by very many characters it better agrees with Zanthoxylum.

- SOULAMEA, Lam., olim inter Polygaleas enumerata, nunc melius nota ad Simarubeas recte refertur (B&H), Soulamea Lam. once numbered among the Polygaleae, now, better known, properly refered to the Simarubeae.

(numerical) compounds: (a specified number) born at the same time, based on gemellus,-a,-um (adj.A): born at the same time, twin-born, paired [> L. geminus,-a,-um (adj.A), a twin, twin-born; cf. gener, genui (gigno): born at the same time]: gemellus (two-born, twin), trimellus (three-born, triplets), quadrimellus (four-born, quadruplets); 2-mellus, 3-mellus, 4-mellus;

. - (mosses) frequentissime unicum tantum genitalium, nonnunquam duo, rarius tria, quatuor rarissime impraegnata reperiuntur; unde PEDVNCVLVS unius eiusdemque subinde perichaetii solitarius, gemellus tri-quadrimellusque reperitur (Hedw.); most frequently only one of the sex organs, sometimes two, more rarely three, extremely rarely four is found fertilized; whence a solitary peduncle [i.e. the seta] is found, of one and the same perichaetium, twin-born [paired], and three-four-born [i.e. triplets, quadruplets].
