A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
melius (adv.): better (comparative of bene); see bene (adv.), ‘well;’ see optime (adv.) ‘best;’

- cum typo melius congruit, with the type it agrees better.

- venis in margine apicali melius visis, with the veins better seen on the apical margin.

- in Cryptonemearum subdivisione favellidia melius [optime] cognita, in the subdivision of Cryptonemeae the favellidia are better [best] known.

- sed characteribus permultis Zanthoxylo melius quadrat, but by very many characters it better agrees with Zanthoxylum.

- SOULAMEA, Lam., olim inter Polygaleas enumerata, nunc melius nota ad Simarubeas recte refertur (B&H), Soulamea Lam. once numbered among the Polygaleae, now, better known, properly refered to the Simarubeae.

- observatis speciminibus Pyrenaicis intermediis, hanc formam insignem cum S. scordioide ut varietatem jungere nunc melius puto(Boissier), having observed intermediate Pyrenean specimens, I think at the present time it is better to join this striking form with S. scordioides as a variety.
