A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
maritimus,-a,-um (adj.A): marine, maritime, growing on land near or in the sea; coastal; cf. halimus,-a,-um (adj.A), maritime, of the sea;

- in uliginosis locisque humidis regionum temperatarum frigidarumque necnon in arenosis maritimis copiose crescunt (B&H), they grow in boggy and wet places of temperate and cold regions and yet copiously growing in sandy, maritime (places).

- incolit loca calcaría maritima Americae meridionalis (Swartz), it inhabits calcarious maritime places of south America.

- Incolit petrosa calcárea maritima jamaicae (Swartz), it inhabits rocky, calcareous, maritime places [sc. loca] of Jamaica.

- arbores fruticesve saepe maritimi (B&H), trees or shrubs often growing near the sea.

- species unica, maritima, Mediterranea, (B&H), a single species, growing near the sea, Mediterranean.

- species maritima hemisphaerii borealis (B&H), a maritime species of the northern hemisphere.

- in rupibus et saxis ad littora maritima Celebum et Moluccarum. (DeCandolle), on rocks and stones on the sea shores of the Celebes and Moluccas.

- in agris praesertim maritimis, et subsabulosis a Lusitania ad Astracan (DeCandolle), in fields, especially maritime, and somewhat sandy from Lusitania to Astracan.

- in maritimis arenosis aridis Carinthiae secus Adriaticum (DeCandolle), in maritime, sandy, dry places [sc. locis] of Carinthia along the Adriatic.

- habitat in graminosis maritimis Indiae occidentalís (Swartz), it dwells in grassy maritime places of the west Indies.

- Habitat in sepibus maritimis Jamaicae (Swartz), it dwells in the maritime hedges of Jamaica.

- Incolit petrosa aridissima & maritima loca Jamaicae (Swartz), it inhabits rocky, very arid and maritime places of Jamaica.

Grimmia maritima, an acrocarpous moss growing on “bare rock faces or in crevices of cliffs near the sea, near high-water mark and sometimes wave-washed or at least in the spray zone. Along the coasts of northern and western Europe” (C&A); Matricaria maritima L., of the sea-shore, growing on waste ground near ports' (Fernald 1950).
