A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Lingua,-ae (s.f.I), abl. sg. lingua: the tongue; tongue, language, speech [in Greek 'glossa or glotta,-es, he, the tongue; see glosso-]; cf. ligula,-ae (s.f.I), a ‘little tongue;’

- (si haec vox in Historic naturalis lingua admitti queat)(DeCandolle), if this word may be admitted in the language of Natural History.

- in ea librorum omnis aevi nationum linguarumque thesaurum condidisi (Necker),.you have established a treasury in those things of books, of all time, of nations and tongues [i.e. languages].

- conversio ejusdem operis , e. latina in gallicam linguam 1 vol. in 8. cum iconibus (Necker), the translation of the same work from Latin into the French tongue 1 volume in octavo with pictures.

- Gallica lingua, & deinde Latina exarata = Printed in French, and then in Latin (Maxwell).

- Nunc primum ex Italica in linguam conversa Latinam (Ferran.), now for the first time turned from the Italian into the Latin language.

Lingua as a noun in apposition to the generic name: Doria lingua; Othonna lingua; Ranunculus lingua; Senecio lingua; Vernonia lingua.

"Linguatula serrata (a tongue-worm); Lingulina gracillima (a formainifer); Ligularia japonica; Exoglossum maxillingua (stone-toter), Dichomeris liguellus (palmer-worm), Agrostis longiligula; Ammophila breviligulatas."

“Lingua cervina, Phyllitis, Harts-tongue” (Ray).
