limn-, or limni-, or limno-: in Gk. comp., pertaining to standing or stagnant water, pools, lakes, marshes [> Gk. limnE,-Es (s.f.I) “a large pool of standing water: a lake, mere, esp. a marshy lake” (Liddell & Scott), in Latin limnE, gen. sg. limnEs (s.f.I): a freshwater lake, pond; see marsh;

- limnobius, living in pools; limnophilus, pond- or marsh-loving.

Limnanthemum Gmel., Limnobium Richard, Limnorchis Rydb. [> Gk. limne, a pool].

Limnobiont-, gen.sg. limnobiontis (s.n.III), abl.sg. –limnobionte: limnobiont; one living in lake environments.

Limnobium,-ii (s.n.II) from Gk. Limnobion, neut. Of limnobios, ‘living in a lake, from limn- + -bios, ‘mode of life:’ also a genus of American aquatic herbs (Hydroharitaceae) (WIII).

limnophilus,-a,-um (adj.A, limnophilicus,-a,-um (adj.A): limnophilous; limnophilicous; “thriving in ponds or stagnant water” (Magill 1990).
