A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
lenticularis,-e (adj.B), lentiformis,-e (adj.B): lenticular, lentiform,”doubly convex, shaped like a lentil-seed” (Jackson); lens-shaped, i.e. resembling a double convex lens; lense-shaped, in bryology, “e.g., gemma of Oedipodiella; apical cell with two segmenting surfaces as in Metzgeria, Fissidens” (Magill 1990); cf. biconvex, “convex on both sides” (WIII);

- capsula, lentiformis, echinata, alia oblonga &c. (Necker), capsule lens-shaped, echinate, the wind oblong.

- siliculis lentiformibus laevibus (DeCandolle), with the silicles lentil-shaped, smooth.

- corpuscula 2, subrotundo-lenticularia, antice hirta, ovario vicina, in carinae basi saccata arcte recepta (B&H), ovules 2, nearly rounded to lens-shaped, antically hirtous, adjacent to the ovary, saccate at the base, closely sheltered in a keel.

- semina oo v. abortu solitaria, reniformi-globosa v. a latere compressa, obovata v. lenticularia, (B&H), seeds indefinite or by abortion solitary, kidney-shaped-globose or compressed from the side, obovate or lenticular.

- [Lemna] herbulae natantes lenticulares v. globosa emergentes (B&H), a little plant, floating, lense-shaped or globose, emergent.

- semina in quoque loculo 1-2, valde compressa, lenticularia, valvis parallela (B&H), the seeds in each locule 1-2, strongly conpressed, lenticular, parallel to the valves.

- semina in loculis solitaria, lenticulari-compressa, septo parallela, dorso convexiuscula, facie leviter concava (B&H), seeds solitary in the locules, lenticular-compressed, parallel to the septum, on the back somewhat convex, on the face lightly concave.

- putamine lenticulari osseo tuberculato (B&H), with the putamen lens-shaped, boney, tuberculate.
