A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
lat., Lat.: abbrev. latitudo,-inis (s.f.III), q.v.; lat. bor., Lat. bor. = latitudo borealis, northern or north latitude.

- Patria: Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Fjord inter 73° et 74° lat. bor. unde cespes singularis retulit Dr. Pansch.; Native land: Kaiser Franz Josefs Fyord between 73* and 74* lat. bor. [acc.sg. latitudinem borealem] from where [i.e. whence] Dr. Pansch brought back a single clump.
lat-, lati-: in L. comp. broad-, wide-; opp. = longi-, long-; in Gk. eury-, q.v. and platy-, q.v., wide, broad; cf. Gk. dolicho-, ‘long-;’ see wide;

- latalatus, with broad wings.

- latiflorus, with wide flowers; latifolius, with broad or wide leaves; latiglumis,-e, with broad glumes; latilobus, with broad lobes; latinervis,-e, or latinervius, with wide nerve(s); latipaniculatus, with a wide panicle; latipes,-pedis, with a wide foot (stalk, petiole, etc.); latiseptatus,-a,-um (adj.A), latiseptate, with walls flattened parallel to the septum in certain fruits of the Brassicaceae; latisquamus (latisquamatus), with broad scales; lativenius, with broad veins.
