A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
lappulaceus,-a,-um (adj.A), lappulosus,-a,-um (adj.A): bur-like; like any rough or prickly, bristly envelope of a fruit; “having the appearance of a lappa or bur; that is to say, of a round body covered with small hooks” (Lindley); cf. echinatus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- [Malpighiaceae] ovarium globosum, sericeum et molliter lappulaceum, 3-loculare (B&H), ovary globose, silky and softly lappulaceous [i.e. bur-like], 3-locular.

- [Malpighiaceae] Nuces 3-4, dorso seriatim muricata; echinata v. lappulacea;, rarius ala dorsali brevi auctas (B&H), nuts 3-4, on the back muricate in rows, echinate or lappulaceous [i.e. bur-like]; more rarely enlarged with a short, dorsal wing.

- [VERBENA lappulacea] seminibus echinatis (Swartz), with the seeds echinate.
