lanatus,-a,-um (adj.A), lanosus,-a,-um (adj.A), lanuginosus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v.: lanose, woolly; “bearing long implexed hairs or wool” (Fernald 1950); (in fungi) “like wool; covered with short hair-like processes” (Ainsworth & Bisby); syn. lanuginosus,-a,-um (adj.A), wooly, downy, fuzzy; cf. floccosus,-a,-um (adj.A): floccose, flocculent, full of flocks or tufts of wool or soft hairs; see cottony; see lanuginosus,-a,-um (adj.A); see woolly;

- caules heteromorphi, saepius carnosi, extus pulvillis lanatis saepe aculeatis seriatis v. sparsis praediti (B&H), stems of two forms, more often fleshy, externally provided with downy pulvilli, often aculeate, in rows or scattered.

- semina cochleata, pilosa v. lanata (B&H), seeds coiled, hairy or woolly.

- semina cochleato-reniformia v. spiralia, pilis longis cincta v. undique longe lanata (B&H), seeds coiled-kidney-shaped or in spirals, bound with long hairs or everywhere long-woolly.

- semina reniformia subglobosa v. obovoidea, nonnunquam pilosa v. lanata, nunc lana ex endocarpio orta v. rarius arillo pulposo v. carnoso involuta (B&H), seeds kidney-shaped, nearly globose or obovoid, sometimes pilose or woolly, sometimes the wool arisen from the endocarp or more rarely [the seed] enveloped in a pulpy or fleshy aril.

- capsula lignosa, intus haud lanata (B&H), capsule woody, inside scarcely lanate.

- capsula 5-valvis, intus dense lanata (B&S), capsule with 5 valves, inside densely lanate.

- styli rami apice dense lanati (B&H), the branches of the style at the apex densely lanate.

- semina reniformia, subglobosa, glabra tomentosa v. lanata (B&H), seeds kidney-shaped, nearly globose, hairless, tomentose or downy.

- in T. populnea capsula subglobosa, indehiscens v. in valvas tardius solubilis et semina crassa lanata (B&H), in T. populnea the capsule is nearly globose, indehiscent or more slowly separable into valves and the seeds are thick, woolly.

- capsula elongata, loculicide 5-valvis, intus densissime lanatovillosa (B&H), capsule elongate, loculicidally 5-valved, inside very densely lanato-villous.

- herba parvula, prostrata, basi frutescens, glabrata v. lanata (B&H), an herb somewhat small, prostrate, shrubby at the base, glabrate or lanate.

- Hyacinthus lanatus: Corolla supera 6-fida, extus lanata (Swartz), the upper corolla 6-divided, externally woolly.
