A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
lact-, lacti-: in L. comp., milk, milking, referring either to milky color or production of latex [> L. lac, gen.sg. lactis (s.n.III), milk]; in Gk. comp. see gal-, gala-, galact-, galacto-;

- lacticaulis, with a lactescent stem, or stems milky-white; lacticolor, milk-colored; lactiflorus, with milk-white flowers; lactifolius, with milk-white leaves.

Lactocollybia,-ae (s.f.I) Singer; Lactifluus,-i (s.m.II) (Pers.)Roussel ex O. Kuntze. Lactuca,-ae (s.f.I) L., Milkweed, Lettuce, “The ancient name of the Lettuce, L. sativa L.; from [L.] lac., milk, in allusion to the milky juice” (Fernald 1950); lactucifolius,-a,-um (adj.A): with leaves like Lactuca (lettuce)..
