item (adv.): likewise, in like manner, in like fashion, similarly, just so (as); also; besides, furthermore, moreover; next, again; correspondingly, in turn; in addition; “as well, likewise (esp. introducing single words or phrases” (Glare).

(in comparisons) in like manner, as;

- fecisti item ut praedones, you had acted in like manner [i.e. in the same way] as robbers.

et item, itemque, and also, and even;

- solis defectiones itemque lumae, disappearances of the sun and even of the moon.

- Romulus augur cum fratre item augure, Romulus the diviner [i.e. member of a college of priests who divined the future] with his brother also an augur.

non item: not so, far otherwise.

quid item: “anything of that sort” (Glare).

item ut: in the same way that ... so (is), according as.. so (is); quasi … item [also used with quemadmodum, quasi, quam si and atque (Glare); also used as a correlative with talis].

- [fungi] clava distincta, alba, item recta, fistulosa, elongata, deorsum cylindrica, sursum subulata (S&A), the club [i.e. fruiting structure] separate, white, also straight, hollow, elongate, downwardly cylindric, upwardly subulate.

- [Peziza onotica; fungus] pauca semel legimus specimina, inter quae tamen item unum erat monstrosum ventricoso-sacciforme ingens, 5 uncias diametro aequans (S&D), once we found a few specimens, among which, however, there was one besides that was an enormous ventricose [i.e. swelling unequally]-bag-shaped monstrosity equalling 5 inches in diameter.

Item synonymon Jaqu. am. 1. tab.i. quod alius est speciei. Vid. Costum spicatam (Swartz), likewise a synonym of Jaqu. am. 1. tab. i. which is of another species. See Costus spicatus.

Item Sloanei, quod ad Amomum sylvestre amandandum (Swartz), in the same way [a synonym] of Sloane, which is to be removed to Amomum sylvestre.

Item Brownei, quod est Alpiniae occidentalis. Vid. Sw. prodr. p. 11 (Swartz), likewise [a synonym] of Browne’s, which is of Alpinia occidentalis. See Sw. prodr. p[age] 11.
