A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
insertus,-a,-um (part.A): affixed to, placed on, originating from [> insero, inserui, insertum, 3., to put into, to introduce into, to insert, with in + acc. or dative case; to introduce, to bring into, to mix or mingle with]; cf. exsertus,-a,-um (part.A): exserted, thrust forth, protruding from or extending beyond surrounding organs; see inserted;

- filamenta staminalia in tertio basali tubi corollini inserta, staminal filaments inserted in the basal third of the tube.

- cymis paucifloris pedunculatis axillaribus ad mediam partem ramuli ubi spina incipit insertis (Boissier), with the cymes few-flowered, pedunculate, inserted on the axils at the middle part of the branchlet where the spine begins.

- petala plurima distincta, staminaque thalamo inserta nec calyci accreta (DeCandolle), petals very many, distinct [i.e. separate] , also the stamens inserted on the thalamus [i.e. the receptacle] not adherent to the calyx.

- stam. 00 ad basin gonophori inserta (DeCandolle), stamens oo [i.e. numerous], inserted on the gonophore.

- sepalis basi solutis seu ultra insertionem deorsum longe productis (DeCandolle), with the sepals freed at the base or long-extended downwardly beyond the insertion.

- bracteolis medio pedicelli insertis (DeCandolle), with the bracteoles inserted at the middle of the pedicel.

- stamina oo,toro inserta (DeCandolle), stamens oo [i.e. indefinite, numerous], inserted on the torus.

- antherae adnatae extrorsae, aut basi ad apicem filamenti insertae (DeCandolle), anthers adnate, extrorse [i.e. turned outward], or inserted from the base to the apex on a filament.
