A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Incola,-ae (s.c.I), abl.sg. incola: [= first declension noun] dweller, inhabitant, a native; also an alien or foreign resident, according to the context; = indigena,-ae (s.c.I), q.v.; see alien (noun); see native (noun); see -cola,-ae (s.f.I);

- species 1, Archipelagi Indici incola, a nobis non visa (B&H), one species, a native of the Indian Archipelago, by us not seen.

- herbae aquarum tranquillarum aut lente fluentium incolae (DeCandolle), herbs inhabitants of tranquil or slowly flowing water.

- species ad 6, Archipelagi Indici et Australiae incolae (B&H), species to six, natives of the Indian Archipelago and of Australia.

- species 2, altera Archipelagi Indici et Malayani incola, altera Madagascariensis (B&H), species two, one of them a native of the Indian and Malayan Archipelago, the other of Madagascar.

- species montium Africae tropicae imprimis orientalis incola, the species of the mountains of tropical Africa particularly eastern an inhabitant.

- species ad 12, regionum calidiorum utriusque orbis incolae, species to 12, an inhabitant of warmer regions of both sides of the globe.

- species 1, Sibiriae orientalis incola, et in Americam maxime boreali-occidentalem introducta (B&H), species 1, a dweller of eastern Sibiria and introduced in mostly north-western America [i.e. alien].

- species montium Africae tropicae imprimis orientalis incola, the species of the mountains of tropical Africa particularly eastern an inhabitant [i.e. native].

- Patria. Insula Teneriffa, ad summam vallem Orotaviensem in fissuris rupium, quas incolae los Organos dicunt, nec alibi: Webb (C. Mueller), the island Teneriffe, at the highest valley of Orotaviensis in the fissures of rocks [or cliffs], which the inhabitants call los Organos, not elsewhere.

Sepincola,-ae (s.f.I), also saepincola (s.f.I) [sep- + incola]: a noun, ‘hedge-dweller,’ ‘thicket-dweller;] [> L. sepes, hedge, + incola,-ae (s.f.I), dweller, inhabitant of] used as an epithet in several lichen names; see sepincola,-ae (s.f.I).
