A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
hypophyllus,-a,-um (adj.A): hypophyllous, inserted under a leaf; “growing on the under side of a leaf” (Lindley); growing under leaves or leaf-like organs or, in mycology, on the lower surface of leaves; opp. epiphyllus,-a,-um (adj.A), inserted upon a leaf or growing on the upper leaf surface; cf. endophyllus,-a,-um (adj.A): endophyllous, growing within the leaf tissue;

- in hypophyllo, on the lower leaf-surface.

- [fungus] caespituli hypophylli, effusi, pallide brunnei, clusters hypophyllous [i.e. growing on the under surface of a leaf], effuse, pale brown.

- teliis hypophyllis, urediniis adsociatis, with the telia hypophyllous, associated with the uredinia.

- [Erineum; fungus] hypo- rare epiphyllum, Erineum [growing] on the under, rarely the upper surface of the leaf.

- [fungi] Pycnidia amphigena, praecipue hypophylla, laxe gregaria; aecidia hypophylla vel petiolocola, conferta (Stearn); the pycnidia on both sides, especially hypophyllous [i.e. growing on the underside], loosely gregarious [i.e. clustered or clumped], the aecidia growing underneath [hypophyllous], or growing on the petiole, crowded.

- [fungus] caespituli hypophylli, effusi, pallide brunnei, clusters hypophyllous [i.e. growing on the under surface of a leaf], effuse, pale brown.
