A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

hyacinthinus,-a,-um (adj.A): hyacinthine, of or belonging to the hyacinth. (As hyacinthine) “1. dark purplish blue; 2. hyacinth-like in habit, a scape bearing spicate flowers” (Jackson); see hyacinthaeus,-a,-um (adj.A).

Hyacinth-blue (H.C.C.40), violet, (rarely) like a hyacinth in habit (Stearn).

- flos, gen. sg. floris (s.m.III) hyacinthinus, abl.sg. flore , flos hyacinthus, abl.sg. flore hyacintho.

hyacinthine: (fungi: color) “purplish blue; MP 42 F 7; near Lavender-Violet (R XXV)” (S&D).

NOTE: amethysteus,-a,-um (adj.A), amethystinus,-a,-um (adj.A): amethyst, violet (H.C.C. 35); also applied to color-range between purple and violet (Stearn 1983). These words imply, together with hyacinthinus,-a,-um (adj.A) and atro-violcaeus,-a,-um (adj.A) a deeper hue of violet than violaceus; see violet; see amethesteus,-a,-um (adj.A).

Bletia hyacinthina (Orchidaceae); Griffinia hyacinthina [blue-colored] (Amaryllidaceae); Hesperoscordum hyacinthinum [flowers blue] Liliaceae; Ledebouria hyacinthina (Liliaceae); Scilla Lilio-hyacinthus, the Lily Hyacinth.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
