Humilitas,-atis (s.f.III), abl. sg. humilitate: lowness, smallness, slightness, shortness, low growth, smallness in stature; insignificance, unimportance; see ‘smallness;’

- [Acaulon; a nearly stemless moss] nomen ob humilitatem congenerum magnam impositum (C. Mull.), the [generic] name applied because of the great shortness of the congeners [i.e. members (species) of the genus].

- [moss] ex humilitate partium omnium ac foliis longe acuminatis late ovalibus arctius areolatis ab Entosthodontibus ceteris peristomatis facile distinguitur (C. Muell.), from the smallness of all parts, and the leaves long acuminate, broadly oval, more closely areolate, it is easily distinguished from the rest of the peristomate Entosthodons.
