A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
heterocarpous, heterocarpic: “producing more than one kind of fruit” (Fernald 1950): heterocarpicus,-a,-um (adj.A), heterocarpus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- Heterocarpus. [a section of Commelinaceae] Ovula loculorum anticorum saepius imperfecta v. abortiva rarius semina perfecta maturantia, caetera Eucommelìna (B&H), the ovules of the antical locules more often imperfect or abortive, more rarely maturing perfect seeds, otherwise Eucommelina.

- carpellis caudato-acuminatis rectis in capitulum stipitatum stellatum aggregatis, uno ad basin stipitis in calyce reliquo, sessili (Boissier), with the carpels caudate-acuminate, straight, collected into a stellate, stalked capitulum, with the one at the base of the stalk on the remaining calyx, sessile. [Geum heterocarpum Boiss.]

NOTE: “(obs.) heterocarpicus (fructus). An inferior fruit” (Lindley).
