hepat-, hepato-: in Gk. comp. pertaining to the liver, liver-.

Hepatica,-ae (s.f.I) Linn. From hepaticos, relating to the liver; the lobes of the leaves have been compared to the lobes of the liver. Ranunculaceae (Paxton); > Gk. hEpar, the liver. “this is a double allusion to the color and shape of the leaves, whence the belief, according to the Doctrine of Signatures, that they would be good for complaints of the liver” (Stearn 1996)..

Hepatica americana (DC.) Ker; Anemone hepatica; Fistulina hepatica Schaeff. ex Fr. a tasty fungus with oozing red juice in the flesh and with the texture of beef, the Beefsteak Fungus.
