A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Guttula,-ae (s.f.I), abl.sg. guttula: guttule, oil-droplet in fungi; ‘used for drops of oil or vacuoles contained in the capitate paraphyses of Fungi’ (Jackson); see ‘droplet;’ oleaceous bodies in the leaf cells of Fissidens pellucidus (Musci);

- guttulis duabus polaribus, with guttules two polar.

- ascosporae brunneae guttulas oleosis 1-3 continentes, ascospores brown oil droplets 1-3 containing.

- [lichens] guttulas oleosas plures plerumque continentes (Nyl.), usually containing many oil- droplets

- [lichens] sporae ellipsoideae {guttulas oleosas minutas vulgo continentes, unam paullo majorem) (Nyl.), the spores ellipsoid (commonly containing minute oily droplets, one [of them] somethat larger).

- ostiola recta, brevia, sphaerula duplo fere, vix triplo longiora, guttula anomala indurata pellucida fulvescente passim coronata (S&A), the ostioles straight, short, almost two times, scarcely three times longer than the sphaerules, everywhere crowned with an unusual hardened pellucid somewhat tawny droplet.

- [fungus] subiculo laevi effuso ( 2 1/2 fere unc. longo , 1 lato), subulis distantibus teretibus brevibus apice excavatis, (mirabile dictu!) guttula viscosa pellucida ovata persistente, demum indurata cornea, coronatis (S&A), with the subicle smooth, spread out (nearly 2 1/2 inches long, 1 wide), crowned with distant, terete, short subulae excavate at the apex, (a wonder to speak!) with a persistent, viscous, pellucid ovate droplet, [the droplet] finally hardened, horn-like.

- [Dematium; fungus] D. filis erectis rigidis subramosis pallidis arcte congestis farina alba interspersis, guttula aquea limpida nonnumquam sublutescente tandem evanida (an decidua?) coronatis (S&A), [a Dematium] with erect, rigid, somewhat branched, pale, closely congested [threads], interspersed with a white meal, crowned with an aqueous, limpid, sometimes nearly yellowish droplet, finally disappearing [perhaps deciduous?].

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
