A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
funnel-shaped, funnelform, “a calyx or corolla, or other organ, in which the tube is obconical, gradually enlarging upwards into the limb, so that the whole resembles a funnel” (Lindley): infundibuliformis,-e (adj.B), infundibularis,-e (adj.B); = hypocrateriformis,-e (adj.B), q.v.

trombiformis,-e (adj.B): narrowly funnel-shaped (Stearn).

Funnel (Eng. noun): “a utensil that has typically the shape of a hollow cone with a tube extending from the point” (WIII); see infundibulum,-i (s.n.II) .

Funnel Cells, “short and broad cells, shaped as a funnel” (Jackson): cellulae (pl.f.I) infundibuliformes.

- tubus corollae teres, infundibuliformis (Swartz), the tube of the corolla terete, funnel-shaped.

- perigynanda propria duplex ; exterio , monosepala, infundibuliformis , plicato-membranacea (Necker), the characteristic perigynandra double, the outer monosepalous, funnel-shaped, plicate-membranaceous.

- flosculi staminiferi, 1-sepali, infundibuliformes (Necker), the stamen-bearing florets with one sepal, funnel-shaped.

- corolla tubuloso-infundibuliformis, tubo elongato, limbi lobis 5 valvatis (B&H), corolla tubulose-funnel-shaped, with the tube elongate, with the lobes of the limb 5-valved.

- petala in corollam infundibuliformem ad medium connata (B&H), the petals into a funnel-shaped corolla fused in the middle.

- corolla tubulosa v. infundibuliformis, petalis ad medium v. alte coalitis (B&H), corolla tubulose or funnel-shaped, with the petals at the middle or high-fused.

- bracteisque medio pedicelli connatis involucrum infundibuliformem multifidum efformantibus (B&H), and with the bracts in the middle of the pedicel fused producing a multifid funnel-shaped involucre.

Cantharellus infundibuliformis Fr., a mushroom with a funnel-shaped body.

NOTE: geniculatus,-a,-um (adj.A): geniculate, bent abruptly at an angle like a bent knee, lit. 'with bended knee;'”sharply bent as a knee; also used for funnel-shaped cross-walls in hyalodermis of some Sphagnum spp’ (Magill 1990).
