A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
foliaceus,-a,-um (adj.A): foliaceous, leafy, leaflike in texture, appearance or shape; “having the texture or form of a leaf, as the branches of Xylophylla” (Lindley); cf. frondose;

- plantae molles, laxe foliaceae, plants soft-textured, laxly leafy.

- corollas ochroleucas radiantes, paleis foliaceis (Boissier), the corollas ochroleucous, radiating, with the pales leaflike.

- calycis anppendicibus subfoliaceis (DeCandolle), with the appendages of the calyx somewhat leaflike.

- cotyledonibus foliaceis ellipticis (DeCandolle), with the cotyledons leaflike, elliptic.

- silicula ala lata foliaceo-membranacea cincta. (DeCandolle), the silicles surrounded by broad, leafy-membranaceous, broad wings.

- stylus ovatus planus, foliaceus (DeCandolle), the style ovate, flat, leaflike.

- capsula alis quatuor foliaceis decurrentibus appendiculata, (F. Mueller), the capsule appendiculate with four leaflike, decurrent wings.

- sepalis junioribus dorso foliaceis (F. Mueller), with the younger sepals leafy on the back.

- calyx laciniis foliaceis ovato-lanceolatis acuminatis (F.Mueller), the calyx with leaflike ovate-lanceolate acuminate laciniae. Thallus,-i (s.m.II) frondosus (adj.A), abl.sg. thallo frondoso: (fungi) “the frondose thallus of lichens” (S&D).

(In lichens) frondose thallus = “same as ‘foliaceous thallus’ (S&D) [thallus foliaceus].
