A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
fiss-, fissi-: in L. comp., divided, split, q.v. [> L. findo, fidi, fissum 3. (findens,-entis) to split, cleave, separate, divide]; opp. integr-, integri-, entire, undivided;

- fissidens, with split teeth; fissifolius, with deeply divided leaves, fissilobus, with split lobes; fissipes,-pedis (adj.B), cloven-footed, with a cleft stalk, pedicel, etc.

Fissidens Hedw. referring to the divided peristome teeth; Fissistigma,-atis (s.n.III), a genus with a divided stigma.
