A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
fide (adv.) faithfully, loyally; superl. fideissime.
fide (abl. sing. of fides): according to, lit. by the faith, by or with the assurance (of); cf. secundum, cf. teste; see fides,-ei (s.f.V), trust, faith;

f. (abbrev., = fide);

- Genus f. A. Gray, according to Asa Gray.

- fide Smith in litt., according to Smith in a letter (littera,-ae, s.f.I).

- fide collectoris, according to the collector (Stearn).

- fide Kunze et Wright, according to Kunze and according to Wright (Stearn).

- fasciculi brevissimi vix ad 1 millimetrum longi, in vivo purpureo-sanguinei (fide Ehrenb.), in speciminibus siccis griseo-virides, fascicles very short scarcely 1 mm. long, in a living state purple-blood-red (according to Ehrenberg), in dried specimens grey-green (Stearn).

- trichoma in fasciculos squamuliformes discretos libere natantes aggregata, trichomes in fascicles scale-like separate freely swimming clustered together (Stearn).

- [Olacineae] drupa subglobosa, ultra medium calyce accreto inclusa, " sarcocarpio tenui, mesocarpio sublignoso, endocarpio tenui carnosulo albo" (fide R. Spuce) (B&H), drupe nearly globose, included beyond the middle in the fused calyx “with a thin sarcocarp, the mesocarp somewhat woody, the endocarp thin, somewhat fleshy, white.” (according to Richard Spruce).

- (fide speciminum a Reichb. f. determinatorum) (B&H), [by the assurance of specimens determined by the son of Reichenbach]

. - synonyma auctorum adjeci qui Iconibus aut descriptionibus rem herbariam illustrarunt, sed nullum fide alterius (Desf.), I have added the synonyms of authors who elucidated the field of botany with illustrations or descriptions, but no [i.e. synonym] on the assurance of other [sc. authors].
