A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
extrorsum (adv.), extrorsus (adv.): extrorsely, towards the outside, externally, facing or opening toward or on the outside; “turned away or outwards from the axis of growth of the series of organs to which it belongs” (Lindley); “directed outward, as the dehiscence of an anther” (Jackson); “facing outward” (Fernald 1950) [> L. for extrovorsus; exteros, on the outside + versus (adv.), towards)]; opp. introrsum (adv.), towards the inside; cf. latrorsum (adv.), sidewise; see direction;

- antheris extrorsum 2-locellatis, with the anthers extrorsely locellate.

- hoc strato extrorsum continuo increscente, with this layer continuously increasing towards the outside.

- loculis introrsum rarissime lateraliter v. extrorsum dehiscentibus; with the locules toward the inside, very rarely laterally or toward the outside dehiscing.

- caude extrorsum arcuanti, with the tail arching toward the outside.

- antherarum loculi filamento adnati, introrsum, extrorsum v. lateraliter dehiscentes (B&H), the locules of the anthers adnate to the filament, dehiscing facing inward, facing outward or laterally.

- antherae extrorsum spectantes, (B&H), the anthers looking toward the outside.

- foliis ovali-oblongis extrorsum dentatis integerrimisve (DeCandolle), with the leaves oval-oblong, facing the outside with teeth or entire.

- foliis ovalibus nitidis extrorsum denticulatis (DeCandolle), with the leaves oval, shining externally denticulate.

- stigmatibus duobus extrorsum ciliatis (F. Mueller), with the stigmas two ciliate toward the outside.

- lobi seriei mediae vix distincto cyclo pertinentes sed magis extrorsum curvatae (F. Mueller), the lobes of the middle series scarcely belong to a distinct whorl but more curved toward the outside.

- antherae extrorsum uniloculares, transverse dehiscentes, the anthers unilocular to the outside, transversely dehiscent.
