A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
exsiccatus,-a,-um (part.A): dried out, dried up [> L. exsicco (exicc-), -avi,-atum, 1., to dry up, to dry out]; opp. recens,-entis (part.B), recent, fresh; see exsiccate,-ae (s.f.I);

- plantae exsiccatae, herbarium specimens.

- fungi exsiccati, dried fungi (Stearn).

- algae exsiccatae, fungi exsiccati, bryophyta exsiccata.

- Musci Europaei Exsiccati, dried european mosses.

- fructus semunciales exsiccati satis laeves fusci tenuiter septati (F. Mueller), the fruits one-half inch, dried out, quite smooth, fuscous, thinly septate.

- differt ab Jasmino gracili foliis exsiccatis non nitentibus (F. Mueller), it differs from Jasminum gracile by the dried out leaves not shining.

- in ramis betulinis putridis exsiccatis (S&A), on betuline [i.e. Betula spp.] branches decayed, dried out.

- In greges satis densos longe lateque effusam aliquoties legimus in ligno Populi tremulae carioso exsiccato (S&A), I collected it several times in quite dense groups spread out far and wide on the decayed, dried out wood of Populus tremula.

- superficies ceterum, in exemplis exsiccatis rugis subparallelis distincta (S&A), the surface otherwise, in dried out specimens with somewhat parallel wrinkles is distinct.

- capsula globosa, nitida, subcarnosa, demum exsiccata, fragilis (B&H), capsule globose, shining, somewhat fleshy, when dried out, fragile.

- basidia in exsiccatis difficile inventa, basidia in dried specimens found with difficulty.

- auctumno & hyeme oritur & in ver usque durat, observataque mihi variis circa Londinum locis ad fossas & pone muros, ubi vernali & aestivo calore mox exsiccata evanescit (Dill.), it arises in autumn and winter and endures as far as into spring, and observed by me in various places around London in ditches and behind walls when, in the vernal and summer heat, soon afterwards dried up, it disappears.
