A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
explanatus,-a,-um (part.A): explanate, flattened, outspread, spread out flat; explained, explicated; (in bryophytes) “flattened or spread out; opp. inflatus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v.” (Magill 1990) [> L. explano,-avi,-atum, 1. to flatten or spread out]; see applanatus

- in statu explanato, in a flattened-out state (Stearn).

- lobulo folii saepe paene vel plene explanato, by the lobule of the leaf often almost or fully outspread.

- perianthium tubo brevissimo explanatum, the perianth flattened out into a very short tube.

- petala explanata, parum inaequalia, omnia per anthesin aperta v. rarius concava et conniventia (B&H), the petals flattened out, somewhat unequal, all throughout anthesis open or more rarely concave and connivent [i.e. coming into contact, converging].

- discus calycis tubum vestiens v. in pulvinum epigynum tumidum explanatum incrassatus (B&H), the disc of the calyx covering the tube or thickened into an apigynous, swollen, flattened out cushion (i.e. swollen base].

- torus saepius in discum carnosum pulvinatum cupulatum, explanatum v. in glandulas divisum (B&H), thr torus very often flattened out into a fleshy, pulvinate, cupulate disc, or [the disc] divided into glandules.

- petala explánata, per anthesin saepius patentia, omnia v. saltem interiora imbricata.(B&H), the petals spread out flat, more often throughout anthesis spreading, all or at least the inner imbricate.

- pétala a basi explánala (B&H), the petals from the base outspread.
