A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Exiguitas,-atis (s.f.III), abl. sg. exiguitate: minuteness; scantiness in measure or number, smallness, littleness, shortness, scarcity (Lewis & Short); cf. parvitas,-atis (s.f.III); see smallness;

- B. unguiculatam ex habitu aemulat, sed teneritate, exiguitate foliisque planiusculis mollissimis toto coelo differt, it resembles B. unguiculata in its habit, but it differs exceedingly by its delicacy, its minuteness and by the leaves rather flat, very soft.

- exiguitate partium omnium facile distincta, by the minuteness of all parts easily distinct.

- [moss] theca (pro plantulae exiguitate) longipedunculata ovalis cernua inclinata brevis vix strumosa exacte terminalis (Mueller), the theca (for the minuteness of the plant) long-pedunculate [i.e. with a long seta], oval, cernuous [i.e. slightly nodding with the face downturned] inclinate [i.e. tilted], short, scarcely strumose, strictly terminal.

- [moss] foliis speciosis pro stirpis exiguitate (C. Mueller), with showy leaves for the smallness of the plant.

- [moss] foliis superioribus (pro planlulae exiguitate) longissimis (C. Mueller), with the upper leaves (considering the smallness of the little plant) very long.

- [moss] ora exiguo annulo cincta (C. Mueller), the mouths surrounded with a weak annulus.

- [moss] ob exiguilatem perichaetium non comparet (C. Mueller), the perichaetium was not compared due to its smallness.

- [moss] theca pro plantulae exiguitate longe pedunculata (C. Mueller), the theca for the smallness of the little plant, long pedunculate [i.e. with a long seta].

- [moss] omnium congenerum humillimum, pygmaeum, Orthodontium verum et distinctissimum exiguitate, (C. Mueller), the smallest of all its congeners, a pygmy, a true Orthodontium and very distinct by its smallness.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
