emersus,-a,-um (part.A): emerged; raised up, brought forth, standing above, partly below the water surface, and partly above the water surface; (in mosses) with capsules partly extending beyong the tips of perichaetial leaves; opp. submersus,-a,-um (part.A), q.v.,‘submerged;’ cf. immersus,-a,-um (part.A), growing below the surface of an organ [> L. emergo, emersi, emersum, 3, to rise, to come forth, to rise up, emerge, to break out];

- setae aggregatae, duo, tres, quatuor et plures, ex eodem perichaetio emersae, setae aggregate, two, three four and more raised up from the same perichaetium.

- folia petiolo longo super aquam natantia, rarius emersa (B&H), leaves with a long petiole, swimming above the water, more rarely emersed [i.e. partly below and above the water surface.

- fructus nunc emersi nunc sub aqua maturescentes (B&H), the fruits sometimes emersed, sometimes maturing below the water [i.e. water surface].

- [Nuphar:] Fructus emersi (B&H), the fruits emersed [i.e. partly above, partly below the water surface].

- Hab. ad rupes subemersas, vehementiori fluxu expositas, it grows on nearly emersed rocks, exposed by a more powerful current.

- strobili carnosi, nunc vix 2 lin. diametro, 1-2-spermi, nunc ovoideo-globosi,6 lin. longi, seminibus sat numerosis semi-emersis (B&H), the strobili fleshy, sometimes scarcely 2 lines [4.2 mm] in diameter, 1-2-seeded, sometimes ovoid-globose, 6 lines [12.6 mm) long, with the seeds quite numerous, somewhat emersed [i.e. emergent].

- Hab. ad saxa trabesque ligneos saepe emersos, undarumque spuma irrigatos it dwells on stones and woody planks, often half-submerged and irrigated by the foam of the waves.

- [algae] ad saxa emersa, rora undarum irrigata, a luce subabscondita utriusque maris (Agardh), on emergent stones, wetted [i.e. doused] by the spray of the waves, somewhat hidden from the light in both seas.

- [algae] Hab. ad lapides subemersos undis irroratos magis absconditos (Agardh), it grows on stones somewhat emergent, more concealed, splashed by the waves.

semi-emersus,-a,-um (part.A): partially emergent or raised up.

subemersus,-a,-um (part.A): slightly emergent or raised up.
Emersus,-us ((s.m.IV), abl. sg. emersu: an emerging, appearing, a coming forth, a coming out [> L. emergo, emersi, emersum, 3, to rise, to come forth, to rise up, emerge, to break out];

- (moss) emersus capsulae supra setam, the appearing of the capsule above the seta.

emersus serpentium, the coming out of the serpents.
