A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
doliarius,-a,-um (adj.A): of a barrel, cask or casks often of wood [> L. dolium,-ii (s.n.II), q.v., a barrel, cask];

-[Byssus tenerrima [i.e. very soft], murina, doliaris: “The Mouse-Skin Cask Byssus”] Fungus spongiosus niger reticulatus, doliolis vinosis adnascens (Dill.), a spongy fungus, [shining] black, reticulated, growing upon wine-casks.

- officina,-ae (s.f.I) doliaria: cooperage, ‘cask-, or barrel-shop’ or manufactory.

- Faber doliarius, gen.sg. fabri doliarii, abl.sg. fabro doliario: a maker of casks and barrels and other wooden tools; see dolium,-ii (s.n.II).

- Нujusce feminae folium varios expetuntur usus, Fabri doliarii ad doliorum rimas, commissurasque obturandas (Mich.), of this [i.e. Cyperoides], they seek after the leaf of the female [i.e.plant] for various uses, the maker of casks for stopping up the cracks of the casks [i.e. the gaps where the staves occur], and seams [i.e. the joinings].

Dliarium,-ii (s.n.II), abl.sg. doliario, q.v.: a wine-store, a place where casks of wine are stored, wine-cellar [> L. dolium,-ii (s.n.II), q.v., a barrel, cask].

Doliarius,-ii (s.m.II), abl.sg. doliario: a cooper, one who makes or cares for casks, vats, barrels, buckets, tubs, troughs. Wooden staves were made pliable through steam or heat = faber doliarius.

- Patriam OTHO BRUNFELSIUS nactus est Moguntiam, ad Rheni Moenique confluentem. Pater ei fuit Joannes a Brunfels doliarius, vir probus & gravis (Tourn.), Otto Brunfels has found Moguntia [i.e. Mainz, Germany] as a birthplace, at the confluence [i.e. running together] of the Rhine and the Main. His father was Joannes from Brunfels, a cooper, a virtuous and respected man.

- [Byssus evanida, floccosa, nivea. The flaky Snow Byssus.] Floccorum instar circulis doliariis & lignis putrescentibus, quin & ipsis subinde muris, si asseres adstiterint, adnascitur in cellis cryptisque subterraneis humidioribus (Dill.), resembling flocks [i.e. of cotton or wool], it grows on barrel hoops and putrescent wood, or even also frequently the very walls, if the beams may have stood in position, in the moister cellars and below-ground vaults.
