A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
deltate, deltoid, triangular, triquetrous, shaped like the Greek capital letter 'delta,' like an equilateral triangle in shape; ‘deltoid’ “a solid, the transverse section of which has a triangular outline, like the Greek [delta]. Also applied to the outline of thin bodies” (Lindley); (in mosses) like the “stipe leaves of Hypnodendron dendroides” (Magill 1990): deltatus,-a,-um (adj.A), deltoideus,-a,-um (adj.A), triangularis,-e (adj.B); cf. triquetrus,-a,-um (adj.A), three-angled; see triangular;

- foliis integris cordatis deltoideisve (B&H), with the leaves entire, cordate or deltoid.

- valvis reticulatis, deltoideis navicularibusve, saccatis (B&H), with the valves reticulate, deltoid or boat-shaped.

- petala 5, deltoidea v. ovato-deltoidea, obcordata v. 2-loba (B&H), petals 5, triangular or ovate-triangular.

- stigmata 3, crassa, deltoidea, erecta (B&H), stigmas 3, thick, deltoid, erect.

- Sepala cordato-deltoidea, imbricata, sepals cordate-deltoid, imbricate.

- fronde bipinnata; pinnulîs deltoideo - oblongis serratis, with the frond bipinnate; with the pinnules triangular-oblong [i.e. longer than broad], serrate.
