A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
deflexus,-a,-um (part.A): deflexed, deflected, bent or turned abruptly downwards; “bent downwards” (Lindley); "Abruptly bent outward (abaxially), downward, or backward at some point along its length." [= reflexus] (Kiger & Porter 2001) [> L. deflecto,-deflexi,deflexum, 3: to bend aside or downwards, to turn aside or in another direction]; cf. reflexus,-a,um (part.A);

- petiolis per angulum 45* deflexis, with petioles deflexed through an angle of 45*.

- folium ad apicem valde deflexum, the leaf at the apex strongly bent dackward.

- sepala lateralia subherbacea, linearía, sub labello patentia v. deflexa, longe parallela v. decussata.(B&H), the lateral sepals subherbaceous, linear spreading below the labellum or deflexed, long-parallel or decussate.

- Helvella pileo libero planiusculo repando demum deflexo, a Helvella with the pileus free [i.e. not fixed to the stem], somewhat flat, repand [somewhat sinuose], ultimately deflexed.

- pileus subdifformis , primo planiusculus subumbilicatus , dein margine in stipitem deflexus , uncialis fere, the pileus somewhat deformed, at first rather flat, somewhat umbilicate, ultimately deflexed at the margin into the stipe.

- stigma lobatum, lobis erectis cum placentis alternantibus, sinubus deflexis placentis oppositis (B&H), stigma lobate, with the lobes erect alternating with the placentae, with the sinuses opposite the placentae deflexed.

- stigmatis lobi 4 - 6 , supra verticem clavatum styli distincti radiato-deflexi (B&H), the lobes of the stigmas 4-5, above the apex clavate, [lobes] of the style separate, deflexed in rays.

- stigma sessile, parum dilatatum, lobis deflexo-adnatis (B&H), stigma sessile, somewhat dilated, with the lobes deflexed-adnate.

- lobis a centro deflexo-radiantibus v. divaricato-deflexis placentis oppositis (B&H), with the lobed from the center deflexed-radiate or divergent-deflexed, opposite the placentae.

- labellum deflexum, emarginatum v. breviter 2-dentatum (B&H), the labellum deflexed, emarginate [i.e. shallowly notched] or shortly 2-dentate.
