A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Cupa,-ae (s.f.I): “a tub, cask, tun, vat, etc., for holding liquids, esp. wine” (Lewis & Short); see tub;

- in cupis plantarum aquaticarum, in vats of aquatic plants.

- [alga] Habitat Berolini in cupis plantarum aquaticarum in horto regio botanico sub diu cultarum (Agardh), it grew in Berlin in tubs of aquatic plants in the royal botanical garden, grown under the sky.

- [Sciadium arbuscula [sic]; alga] in cupis plantarum aquaticarum ad fila Vaucheriae racemosae et geminatae, nec non Oedogonii Landsboroughii, cum Gomphonemate capitato et Diatomale pedinali abunde inveni aestate 1847, rarius in stagnis extra hortum ad fila eiusdem Oedogonii et Confervae bombycinae (Braun), in vats of aquatic plants on the filaments of Vaucheria racemosa and geminata, [sometimes] of Oedogonium Landsboroughii, with Gomphonema capitatum and Diatoma pedinalum I had discovered abundantly in the summer of 1847, more rarely in standing water outside of a garden on the filaments of the same Oedogonium and Conferva bombycina.
